Job Details

An exciting opportunity has opened for an estimator to join our clients well established and dynamic team, producing estimates for domestic and commercial landscaping projects.

Our client is a successful domestic and commercial garden design, build and maintenance company established over 30 years ago.

The role will provide commercial expertise to the Project Manager across multiple projects, in addition to working closely with the design team. The candidate should have knowledge of the Construction Industry, ideally within the hard and soft landscape sector, be happy to work as part of a team, have previous knowledge of pricing works, be methodical, computer literate and possess a mathematical and practical approach to this role.

You will play a key role in liason between the design and project management teams and should have a minimum of two years experience, be ambitious, self motivated and have strong communication skills.

Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Project Manager with producing detailed quotations; entering quantities and pricing for line items.
  2. Researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labour and equipment
  3. Establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors Procuring, collating, and analysing enquiries to/from subcontractors in a specified time frame
  4. Provide provisional costings (PC Sums) for new leads/enquiries
  5. Conduct an analysis for each project comparing initial quotes/pc sums to finished costs for the PM team to learn from any pitfalls
  6. Contribute to creating a pricing document for ease of quotations
  7. Resourcing and procurement of materials and developing relationships with suppliers and manufacturers
  8. Work to deadlines and prioritise efficiently
  9. Attend site visits


Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  1. 2+ years experience within the landscaping, construction industry
  2. High level of organisation and efficient time management. The ability to prioritise and multi-task; punctuality; working efficiently and with a good idea of how long each task takes to complete
  3. Excellent attention to detail
  4. Accuracy with numeracy
  5. Confident IT skills and use of all Microsoft Packages; particularly a good knowledge of Excel
  6. Ability to multi-task and flexibility to re-prioritise
  7. Customer handling and negotiation skills
  8. Team player with ability to work independently

You will need to be degree qualified in construction related subject, or equivalent with appropriate industry

Experience and knowledge

  1. Good commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process 
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  3. Problem solver ability to identify and resolve issues with speed
  4. Relationship-building effective stakeholder management, both internally and external to the organisation


Desirable:

  1. Experience reading and understanding technical design packages and translating them into quotations/ provisional costs
