Qualified Gardener

Salary: up to £31,000 DOE
Hours: 35 hours/ week 8am-4pm
The Charterhouse is an almshouse and a heritage site in central London. Its origins date back to the 14th century, and it has previously been a medieval monastery, a Tudor mansion where influential owners entertained prestigious guests, a boys’ school and an almshouse which it remains today. It is a friendly, interesting and unique place to work.
The Charterhouse is responsible for the care and development of four acres of green space and gardens located in central London, comprising Charterhouse Square as well as ornamental and wildlife gardens within the walls. The garden team puts sustainability and biodiversity at the heart of its horticultural practice.
We are recruiting an experienced, qualified full-time gardener to assist in the care and development of the Charterhouse’s green spaces. Attention to detail and a personable demeanour are essential. The role requires working with volunteers, residents and leading public tours of the gardens.
Responsibilities
All general maintenance including:
- Strimming
- Mowing
- Weeding
- Mulching
- Planting
- Pruning
- Watering
- Hedge cutting
- Leaf blowing
- Spraying
- Heavy Lifting
- Any ad hoc duties as required
Person Specification
- One to two years horticultural maintenance experience in a park or public space is essential
- Good plant knowledge
- Minimum RHS Level 2 or equivalent
- PA1/PA6
- Team player
- Well presented
- Good communication skills
The successful candidate will require a basic DBS check and satisfactory employment references
