Technical Grower Manager

Soft Fruit

Tasmania

Want to do the job you love, in a stunning part of the world?

Always dreamed of relocating to somewhere with a warmer climate, stunning beaches, and lots to explore?

This could be your chance.

You'd be reporting to the General Manager and be holding one of the most senior positions in the company. They want your wealth of expertise, opinions and views.

What's the Job?

As a Technical Manager, you will be responsible for leading the technical and irrigation team.

Irrigation, P&D management, climate controls will all come down to you and the team you manage. You'll be creating spray plans, IPM strategies and developing the skills in your team to ensure they know exactly what needs doing, and when.

As well as the day-to-day, you'll be supporting in the business's internal propagation development, which is an exciting project to get stuck into.

As well as communicating and managing a team internally, you'll also be leading the relationship with external plant suppliers to ensure you're sourcing the best quality.

Imagine a week like this:

Monday: An office day. You'll be creating forecasts and plans for the business, before going into P&L reports.

Tuesday: A day in the tunnels. You'll be working closely with the two managers reporting into you. You'll be crop walking, identifying areas of training for the wider team and continually assessing the quality of the crop.

Wednesday: This is a day for projects. You'll be looking into hydroponics, new growing media and methods before reviewing the ongoing propagation project.

Thursday: A day with external stakeholders. You'll be either hosting a visit, or out visiting the people that supply you with everything you need to do the job. You'll be reviewing costings, agreeing plans and building relationships.

Friday: Another day in the tunnels. You'll be back with the team, getting to spend time with individuals who want to learn from you. You'll be seeing all your hard work turning into quality fruit. You'll wrap up the week with a plan for the next 7 days, before finishing the weekend and getting ready for a hiking trip to the National Park.

What do I need?

You'll already have many years of experience working in soft fruit and understand the ins and outs of growing quality produce.

You'll understand growing on a commercial level. They currently grow on 70ac, and this doesn't phase you. You'll understand all there is to know about growing methods, including hydroponics and different medias.

Ideally, you'll have experience in propagation, so you're able to hit the ground running in this development project.
