Job Details

Gardener required

A unique position has arisen on a beautiful small country house estate between Farnham and Basingstoke for a hands-on experienced Gardener with strong plant knowledge, to help develop and establish the house gardens.

This ancient farm which dates back to 1240AD is set within 65acres of land in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, set approximately 12 miles from Farnham, Reading and Basingstoke is. predominantly set aside for equine use and is mainly managed by the current tenant although some advice may be sought from time to time

The farmhouse itself sits within a 4-5-acre garden which now offers potential for the next phase that would incorporate creative input of the successful candidate in conjunction with the owners’ ideas.

The garden itself is currently made of 4 main areas these being an established front lawn with mature trees, a new partially walled kitchen garden with Hartley Botanic greenhouse, a variety of espalier and half standard fruit trees, a new walled semi formal garden and an original pond with surrounding beds.

The grounds also include a swimming pool and tennis court which will require basic maintenance

Whilst the Gardens have undergone a massive transformation in the last 2 years, they now seek new eyes with new ideas and a safe pair of hands to develop further in conjunction with the owners.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and flexible Gardener with good physical fitness and plant knowledge to enrich the classical nature of the re-established gardens whilst at the same time putting your own mark down.

The ideal candidate would

1.      Have either an extensive knowledge of plants or a formal horticultural qualification

2.      Have a good knowledge about all aspects of propagation and cultivation

Have a proven track record of garden skills with attention to detail
Competent (or willing to learn) in the safe operation and maintaining of machinery
In addition to gardening duties, the new Gardener should be willing to undertake general estate management tasks including interaction/managing any contractors that would come to site, as well as oversee tasks for a groundsman/handyman.

This vacancy is for full-time permanent and is available from the end of June, allowing for notice periods of the successful candidate(s).

Salary £35,000 £40,000 per annum + 28 Days Holiday including Bank Holidays + pension.  This is a live out position.
