Allerton Landscape Design Ltd are looking for a new Garden Maintenance Manager, to head up and manage their in-house mobile maintenance and planting team. The position requires someone with an ingrained love and knowledge of horticulture, but the candidate will also require leadership and team management skills, as well as enjoy being client facing. 

The job, at least initially, is entirely site-based and fully hands-on. Relevant experience of maintaining private gardens and outdoor spaces to the highest standards is a given for the right candidate, but the role also requires an ability to get on with your colleagues and get the best out of them. You will be well supported by the office, project managers and the Director, but a degree of initiative and autonomy is expected from the right candidate. 

The job description in more detail: 

Working closely with the office to organise and execute the daily schedule, directing resources accordingly. This would be your overall responsibility, fully supported by the office

  • To build a strong rapport with the entire group at ALD, but most importantly supporting, motivating and leading the existing team of gardeners 
  • Establish trusting relationships with clients. To meet and communicate with clients on a regular basis, action their requests, and ultimately ensure client-satisfaction
  • Quality control the work being carried out by the gardening team, ensuring our work is carried out to the highest horticultural standards; liaise with the office and Director on a weekly basis to review performance and discuss any issues or opportunities  
  • Communicate clearly with the landscape project managers throughout the install phase of their projects, to ensure a smooth transition from the build phase into the ongoing care of the maintenance department
  • Financial acumen, commercial awareness and accurate administration skills
  • Desire, ambition and competency to help grow this side of the business

Requirements:

  • Confident in a client-facing role
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Strong plant knowledge and overall horticultural knowledge, with a keen eye for detail 
  • Pride in your work with an ability to go the extra mile when required
  • A full, clean driving licence
  • Logical, computer-literate and a working knowledge of Google Workspace software
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Full time - Monday to Friday
  • Self-employed basis
