David Austin Roses Limited is a world-leading breeder of fine English Roses. A family business based in the Shropshire countryside, the company has over 200 varieties of garden roses and a growing portfolio of luxury cut roses to its name.

In 1961, David Austin Snr (1926-2018) introduced his first English Rose, ‘Constance Spry’.  The first cut roses were introduced in 2004.  This collection of roses for the garden and floristry are celebrated throughout the world, winning a plethora of awards for their exceptional beauty, delicious fragrances and outstanding performance.

Building on our expertise we have ambitious plans to expand an area of our international business. To drive this we need an entrepreneurial, commercially focused project / business manager to lead and manage a small team to make our exciting new project become established.

Head of Department/ Project Manager .

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for managing the successful cut rose business, which is entering a new phase of its strategy.  The role will initially focus on creating a direct-to-consumer international revenue stream as well as maintaining existing business channels.

You will develop and implement a robust project plan, to ensure each phase of the direct-to-consumer project starts and ends on schedule. You will bring project management ability, leadership, strategic and commercial insight as well as build and maintain strong commercial relationships with our international growers and key partners.

Outstanding attention to detail, planning, communication and customer care skills are a pre-requisite for the role.  Luxury brand experience is advantageous.

Your day to day:

  • Strategic and day to day leadership in technical, operational, financial and managerial tasks for successful implementation of the project and existing business requirements.
  • Develop and oversee all project implementation related to the sale of cut roses direct- to-consumer.
  • Lead key relationships with our growers in North/South America and internationally.
  • Ensure the project delivers specified results and meets quality expectations.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to proactively address challenges.
  • Create and manage project budgets.
  • Regularly communicate project progress and status to stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Provide guidance, support and leadership to the cut rose marketing team across a portfolio of projects, maintaining existing business needs and activity in addition to the new consumer project.
  • Develop a timeline that captures milestones for projects.

What you bring to the team

  • Previous experience within a similar role and industry (e.g. experience within horticulture/ agriculture/ retail/ FMCG; direct-to-consumer sales is preferred but not essential).
  • Ideally, project management experience.
  • Experience of managing or working with a luxury consumer brand is desirable.
  • Experience managing, designing, implementing and evaluating multiple projects, often with international collaborators.
  • Stakeholder management - ability to influence and manage at all levels of the business.
  • Commercially and financially astute.
  • Achievement orientated.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Regular travel overseas may be required. Collaborative and calm approach.

Your place of work will be at the David Austin Roses’ Head Office in Shropshire, with international travel.
