Passionate about trees?  Want to join an established tree growing nursery?  We’re looking for a dynamic person with strong organisational skills to take over the role of Production Manager, to help maintain and develop the exceptionally high standards we have become known for.

 

Established in 2008, we set ourselves up as a field-grown tree nursery to supply high quality, multi-stem trees to the British landscaping industry.  We grow over 100 varieties of trees and shrubs on our 80 acres site which is spread around the village of Stoke Gabriel in Devon.

 

Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced person to take up the role of Production Manager.  This role involves being responsible for the outside running of the nursery and in essence, being responsible for ensuring the correct growing requirements are met for each and every tree throughout the nursery. 

This is a very hands-on position, where an eye for detail and an ability to lead by example is not only essential, but crucial.

Skills required are: being able to prune trees according to company specifications; ensuring appropriate growing practices are met; being in charge of the rootballing over the  winter; managing and maintaining appropriate irrigation delivery for all growing trees (container and field).  Ensuring pest and disease control requirements are met; improving on and maintaining weed control across the site; overseeing the running of the machines; ordering materials as needed; contributing to development of the company’s technical knowledge, best practice, and innovation and ensuring legislative compliance, including Health & Safety, is met.

 

 

Essential Criteria

A passion for plants, especially trees, is of the utmost importance.

To have an eye for detail: our nursery produces trees of the highest quality and standard and an eye for details is essential.

To understand tidiness and to work to a high standard is essential to this job.

The ability to distinguish between different genus, species and varieties of trees.

To be able to demonstrate experience of growing, with good horticultural knowledge and skill base.

To be able to understand watering, pruning and growing patterns.

To have a knowledge, or be interested to learn about soil for improved growing conditions.

To be able to manage people to achieve daily tasks – be a clear communicator.

To be able to use own initiative essential.

Have pest & disease knowledge or willingness to learn.

To be able to develop and motivate a team.

To be enthusiastic, practical, and driven to succeed.

To be able to plan and monitor effectively to ensure teams’ productivity.

Have good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Literacy Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience (e.g. GCSE, NVQ, Key Skills, Welsh Baccalaureate Intermediate, Scottish National Certificate level 5)* Numeracy Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience (e.g. GCSE, NVQ, Key Skills, Welsh Baccalaureate Intermediate, Scottish National Certificate level 5) Competent IT user with experience of the Microsoft Office suite

 

This position is 40 hours per week.
