Coram’s Fields is one of the most unique open spaces in London. Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, opposite Great Ormond Street Hospital, our seven acre park has existed for the sole benefit of children and young people for 86 years.
A lot has changed during this time. Our park, playgrounds, sports facilities and community green spaces now welcome around 150,000 visitors every year. Whilst our Grade II listed buildings, the only lasting remains of the Foundling Hospital built in 1739, are home to a wealth of community services, providing essential support for children, young people and families living across Camden, Westminster and Islington.
Our objective is quite simple. To ensure our park and facilities continue to provide a safe haven for local children, where they can benefit from some of the best facilities available, whether that be our playgrounds, community growing spaces and wildlife garden, sports facilities or indoor community hubs. Coram’s Fields is a space for children and children alone.
To do this, we know we need to do things a little differently. We need to plan for the future and identify our priorities to not only maintain our space, but to take every opportunity we can to enhance and develop it. To drive this change, we have developed the new role of Senior Grounds Person.
As Senior Grounds Person, you’ll have the opportunity to transform the experience of children and families using our park, with responsibility for overseeing every aspect of our hard and soft landscape management plans. Coram’s Fields has recently completed a landscape management review and this will provide the foundations for you to work with our Buildings and Facilities Manager to develop our vision for the future, and to work with a team of dedicated grounds staff to deliver on these ambitions.
We’re looking for somebody with in depth knowledge and experience of what it takes to successfully maintain and develop a park such as Coram’s Fields, with a particular focus on our green spaces, playground areas and communal spaces for families. You will be a visionary landscape professional, with a commitment to quality and an ability to work with a team to maintain the highest of standards for our users.
This is a key role for the organisation. You’ll be inspired by the cause and excited by the opportunity to shape the future of this iconic space for the benefit of the thousands of children and families that visit us every year.
Diversity and inclusion matter to us. Coram’s Fields is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, from a diverse range of backgrounds. We strive for our workforce to be representative of the communities that we serve and we know that greater diversity will lead to even greater results for the families and children we work with.
Coram’s Fields is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all children and young people. All those applying for a role with the charity, are subject to robust safeguarding checks and will need to demonstrate clearly, their commitment to safeguarding. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and all post holders are required to register with the DBS update service.
