We are seeking to recruit arboricultural operative(s) who have the requisite skills, knowledge, and ability to act as a member of a team and contribute to the delivery of neighbourhoods of choice through the provision of a comprehensive range of flexible, responsive, planned and statutory front-line Arboriculturally related services for residents, businesses and visitors to the City of Manchester.
 

Location base Hooper Street Depot, Manchester Working Citywide

Hours: 35 per week (will include call out once competency level is met).

Candidates are expected to undertake their role in a professional manner and have an understanding and appreciation of how they and the work they do impacts upon the city council's corporate aims, objectives, and desire to improve Manchester as a City. Applications need to show how they meet all the Key Role Accountabilities as outlined in the attached role profile.

Technical Requirements

•Must hold a current manual UK driving licence, B+E as a minimum

Role Specific Technical Requirements

•NPTC Units: 201: Chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting (CS30)
•NPTC Unit 202: Tree felling and processing (CS31)
•NPTC Units: 203: Tree climbing and Aerial Rescue Operations (CS38)
•CS39 – Using a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness
•Signing, lighting, and guarding (Chapter 8)
•Level 3 award for first aid at work

This post requires the candidate holds as a minimum the NPTC qualifications shown above or the Lantra/City and Guilds equivalent. An ABC level 2 in arboriculture would be desirable.

An ability to demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of dendrology, arboriculture practices, tree pruning, tree selection and planting in an urban environment, tree related pest and disease Identification and significance, the eco services provided by urban trees and the ecological value and wildlife habitats provided by urban trees and woodlands.

The Neighbourhood’s Service is an integrated model for the delivery of neighbourhood services that combines Citywide Services providing strategic direction and operational management of services together with very specialist technical support, and 3 Neighbourhood based teams where the services are delivered.

The purpose of the Neighbourhoods Service model is to effectively realise Manchester's vision and outcomes for neighbourhoods that are key to the delivery of the new Manchester Strategy. The vision is for clean, safe, and green neighbourhoods where people choose to live, with access to employment opportunities and a high-quality sport, leisure, and cultural offer. Neighbourhoods should be places where communities are engaged and have an increased sense of pride with positive perceptions of the area, and social and volunteering opportunities. The purpose of the Neighbourhoods Service is described below.

This role is predominately field/community based. You would spend most of your time working in the wider community. Your role may involve client meetings, visits, project work and reports. You’ll mainly be working where the service users are, not where the ‘office’ is, but you will have workspace available for when you need it.
