Senior Gardener leading to Head Gardener

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, qualified well rounded gardener to play a key role in a beautiful developing private estate. 

The role would suit a keen hands-on horticulturist with experience of working within a private estate garden.

The property encompasses 230-acres in total, with formal grade II listed gardens of 12 acres, comprising of, extensive mature arboretum, collection of rhododendron and azaleas, shrubs, lawns, ponds, borders and hedges.

There are exciting plans to develop, restore and preserve the gardens along with the wider estate. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the next chapter in this historic estate’s development. As the gardens and estate grows the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop this role into a Head Gardener position.

The successful applicant will join an existing small estate team and will be responsible for managing and maintaining the garden to a high horticultural standard with organic principles.

This role is varied and includes work within the park and woodlands as well as the formal garden.

Applicants should have:

• A horticultural qualification; at RHS level 2, and/or extensive hands-on experience in large private gardens Knowledge of seasonal garden management Plant identification skills Excellent practical abilities Machinery experience A full UK driving licence is required. 

The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, work consistently to a high standard and will be able to adopt a flexible approach to their work. They will be able to prioritise and plan work efficiently and effectively.

Desirable skills:

• Chainsaw certificate, Tractor driving, Chipper operation.
