Job Description

Ascott House and Gardens are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic gardener to join our team, maintaining the beautiful gardens in Wing to the highest standard. Ascott Gardens is open to the public between March and September and is a popular attraction with 50,000 visitors enjoying the magnificent Gardens.

Applicants must have a passion for gardening and ideally have a minimum of three years' experience working in a public/ private historic garden at a senior level and experience of managing, motivating and developing a small team of gardeners and volunteers.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a flexible approach to their working hours and tasks as there will be a requirement to perform weekend duties on a rota system. You must be an excellent communicator and have the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Trained as a professional Gardner/ horticulturalist. Good level of practical experience

RHS Level 3 as a minimum or equivalent.

Excellent knowledge of plant husbandry and horticultural techniques with experience in plant   production for bedding displays and plant retails sales alongside planning bedding displays throughout the year.

Confidence to participate in garden activities and events.

Experience and confidence in working with and managing garden staff as well as supervising trainee staff, volunteers and contractors as required, alongside proficient communication skills.

Confidence with machinery/ equipment use and maintenance including tractors, chainsaws and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.

Knowledge of Health and Safety and compliance requirements. 

Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite.

Be effective in budgeting and management reporting.
