An experienced gardener is required on this busy rural estate in the Watford/St Albans area of Hertfordshire.

The formal and informal gardens contain maturing herbaceous borders, lawns, vegetable/fruit gardens and woodland including a small arboretum. A knowledge of plants, growing fruit & vegetables, propagation and tree/shrub care is essential. You will be required to work with one other and, on occasions, unsupervised with direction for your own work programme.

Chainsaw qualifications (CS30/31), spraying (PA1/6) and experience of tractor/trailer work with PTO driven machinery is required - training courses provided if necessary. Full driving licence required.

A tidy and organised work ethic with care and maintenance of all equipment and garden machinery is a necessity.

In addition, further estate duties will form part of this job outside the garden. This could include some basic property maintenance, woodland work, fencing and general maintenance. A flexible and proactive approach to all estate work is required.

Previous gardening experience and a sound knowledge of the countryside is important. Also, the integrity to work at a private family home with care and respect for an historic environment. Outside the garden, the estate has residential and commercial property enterprises and equestrian activities in addition to agriculture. Our interface with the public is strong due to a high level of public access and the need to respect and maintain a measured attitude towards this is essential.

Salary is dependent on experience but will be competitive and will include a 3 bedroom house and other benefits.
