Head Gardener with the assistance of a full time Gardener.

Please note that we are also seeking applications for the additional role of Gardener.

The owners of Little Farringdon House seek an experienced, hands-on, Head Gardener who will be able to fully achieve the beautiful garden that Jinny Blom has designed for us.

The extensive garden and surrounding parkland (40 acres), have been designed by Jinny Blom and are now moving to a second stage of development. This stage will look to establish the detail of the existing scheme, as well as further planting and significant ongoing refinement to achieve the highest standard of horticultural management and presentation.

The garden contains a wide and diverse range of horticultural areas and is particularly well supported with areas for composting, glasshouses, and storage.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the relevant practical experience to support and manage all the diverse aspects of the garden and landscape, and be able to deliver the highest horticultural standards of growing and presentation that are required. They must be experienced with the production and care of tender perennials, fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, House plants, and beautiful container displays. There are areas of perennial planting, hedges, woodland, fine turf, parkland and meadows. Lake and wild Brown trout stream.

The Head Gardener is responsible to the garden owners. They will report to, and liaise with the property manager in all domestic and HR matters.  They will liaise closely and proactively with Jinny Blom and her team in relation to all horticultural and design matters.

The Head Gardener will have budget responsibility for day to day expenses and will be expected to present a case to budget for more significant expenditure.

Suitable candidates must be experienced in professional horticulture, preferably with some experience in private service, together with 1 year’s proven supervisory experience, together with comprehensive plant knowledge.

Clear understanding of the relevant Health and Safety legislation, formal training in manual handling and risk assessment, a valid driving licence.

Line management of a gardener and other seasonal or contract support, as may be required.

Training equivalent to RHS Level 3, HND, or OND.

Experienced and able to use a range of equipment that may be required in the maintenance of the garden – lawn mowers, tractor, hedge cutting, chain saw.
