The City Gardens Section is responsible for the management of the City’s green spaces; almost 200 gardens and churchyards within the Square Mile including prestigious sites such as St. Paul’s Cathedral Churchyard.

We are looking for an Assistant Gardeners to help maintain the highest standards in our award-winning gardens.

You will work towards ensuring that our gardens are maintained to the highest standards for the enjoyment of the public and other users. In addition, you will work on improvement projects which are usually undertaken during the winter period.

You will work under the instruction of our gardeners within one of our area teams, assisting with horticultural operations as well as carrying out general maintenance tasks. You will need to enjoy working with colleagues, the public and volunteer groups.

The successful candidate will:

• Be able to demonstrate passion, knowledge and experience in the field of horticulture. 
• Have a flexible approach to team working, be self-motivated and be able to demonstrate an ability to work on your own initiative
• Have a good understanding of Health and Safety
• Be able to use mobile technology to work on the move

The shift roles require you to work a 37-hour week. Ideally candidates will have a full drivers licence.

Pay will be basic 35-hour week starting at bottom of pay grade A, with an additional 2 hours increasing weekly hours to a 37-hour week with inner London weighting.
