Assistant Gardener

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work alongside the Head Gardener and Assistant Gardener at a large private estate on the outskirts of Knaresborough.

The gardens consist of maturing herbaceous borders, formal and informal lawns, an orchard underplanted with a wild flower meadow, sweeping gravel drive, a pond, walled kitchen garden and associated glass houses and all weather tennis court.  The gardens around the house total approximately 4 acres. The job will also involve the grass verge maintenance on a working Stud Farm, primarily around the farm but also around the existing field structure. The Stud Farm totals  approximately 340 acres.

We are looking to employ a hard working individual who is looking to move into horticulture, and therefore the ideal candidate will either be a keen amateur gardener or someone looking to progress their career in gardening. Practical skills and experience is beneficial but not a necessity but a can do attitude and a keen eye for detail is a must.  Horticulture Qualifications (RHS Level 2) is an advantage but not a necessity. You will be part of a small gardening team but you will also be required to work on your own on occasions.  Full training, support and mentoring will be given.

Working Monday to Friday 0800 to 1700, with very occasional weekend working / holiday cover dependent upon the weather and social functions at the main house.

Salary starting at £20k, negotiable dependent upon experience and qualifications.

20 days holiday plus bank holidays per annum.
