Do you enjoy outdoor work? If so and you can demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the undertaking of a diverse range of Arboricultural tasks, including tree pruning (working at height) tree felling and dismantling, dealing with storm damaged trees, stump grinding/chemical treatment, disposing of or processing of the arising’s, working within woodlands. 

Driving is essential for this role

  • Use and experience of Arboricultural tasks.
  • Tree climbing/Aerial rescue.
  • Rigging and dismantling.
  • Assist with the provisions of emergency call out works in accordance with the Councils emergency call out procedures.
  • NPT certification in arboricultural activates.
  • PA1, PA6, Chemical Application
  • First Aid at Work
  • Manual Handling

37 hours a week, Monday to Thursday - 7.30am to 3.30pm, Friday - 7.30am to 3.00pm. We operate an annualised hour’s scheme which means you may be asked to work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday – 7.30am to 4.00pm. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake a whole range of Arboricultural tasks, including tree pruning (working at height) tree felling and dismantling, dealing with storm damaged trees, stump grinding/chemical treatment, disposing of or processing of the arising’s, working within woodlands.
  • Assist with the provisions of emergency call out works in accordance with the Councils emergency call out procedures.
  • Assist with aerial tree inspection works and the assessment of hazardous trees, including the use of decay detecting equipment.
  • The use and maintenance of all plant and equipment, including chainsaw’s, wood chippers, stump grinders, powered pole pruners, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers. Ensuring all plant and equipment are maintained as per the service manuals.
  • All personal climbing equipment i.e. ropes, harnesses, karabiners, etc. are to be kept to the correct standard as per the LOLER Regulations.
  • To comply with the Councils Health & Safety policy, and associated management systems and report any incidents/accidents/hazards.
  • Undertake all operational work in strict compliance with Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Implement traffic management is required for all tree operations in the public highway in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Chapter 8 regulations.
  • Undertake all necessary internal/external training.
  • Undertake all tree, shrub, hedge planting as required.
  • Undertake maintenance of all hedgerows, shrubs as part of the Area Care annual maintenance programme.
  • Assist in any Area Care operational works as directed.
  • Follow specific instructions written, verbal or IT.
  • Ensure that a high standard of work is maintained at all times and to embody Middlesbrough Councils Corporate Values.
  • To report any operational, mechanical or technical problems immediately to the Supervisor/Group leader.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the public to ensure a positive perception of the Council is met.
