Head Gardener

We are seeking an experienced Head Gardener to take charge of the running and maintenance to a high standard of a well established 9 acre garden near Shaftesbury. Approximately half the garden is made up of formal lawns, borders, hedges  and a cutting garden and the other half consists of a woodland garden with many mature trees and shrubs including rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and an abundance of bluebells and other wild flowers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

>> Maintain and develop all areas of the garden and in close collaboration with the owners develop new projects and planting ideas.

>> Direct and supervise the work of four day/week groundsman

>> Maintain garden infrastructure and ensure all machinery is serviced and in good functioning order.

>> Assist in the running of open days and guided tours of the garden. 

QUALIFICATONS

>> Candidates should have  experience as Head Gardener or reporting to Head Gardener of a broadly comparable garden

>> Candidates must have excellent plant knowledge and horticultural skills and established experience of garden machinery including lawnmower, trimmer, hedge trimmer and chainsawSALARY

SALARY

>> DOE, at the upper end of the 2022 recommended band of the Professional Gardeners Guild.If preferred, a mixed package including accommodation may be possible.
