EXPERIENCED GARDENERS REQUIRED IN THE SOUTH EAST OF ENGLAND

We are currently recruiting for 2 mobile gardeners covering:
  • Hampshire ideally located in the Portsmouth area
  • Sussex ideally located in the Hastings area
  • Full time permanent contracts, 37 hours a week
  • Starting salary of up to £24,500 dependent on skills and experience


An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced and capable gardeners to join our team maintaining our iconic horticultural plots at cemeteries and churchyards across the South East of England to our universally admired high standards.

You must be a keen horticulturist, in possession of excellent practical knowledge and a broad breadth of experience. You will be hard working, highly motivated and enjoy being part of a dedicated, enthusiastic skilled team. Most of all we would like you to bring a proactive and flexible approach to the role and to integrate well into the team.

Pesticide Certificates (PA1 and PA6) are required for these roles, and the Commission is willing to provide the necessary support and training to gain these qualifications.

These are mobile roles, so travelling and spending nights out may be necessary at times. We pay for hotel accommodation, as well as allowances to cover expenses.

We are looking for:
  • Demonstrable experience or training of at least NVQ2 or similar
  • An excellent understanding of horticultural techniques and plant identification
  • An ability to maintain and demonstrate the highest horticultural standards
  • An understanding of Health & Safety and knowledge of sustainable garden practices
  • Extensive experience with the use and care of a wide range of garden machinery
  • A good work ethic - reliable, punctual, hardworking and able to work in all types of weather
  • A full driving licence is essential
  • PA1/PA6 spraying certificates an advantage
  • The role is practical and hands-on and requires commitment and a decent level of physical fitness
