Brunswick Organic Nursery in Bishopthorpe is a registered charity (No. 1010178) that offers a productive supported workplace for adults with learning difficulties in horticulture, gardening, crafts, cooking, woodwork and office administration.

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for someone to continue to develop both our plant nursery and the opportunities it offers for people who wish to work in it.  This role is about both plants and people. Our nursery grows a range of plants for sale including bedding, perennials and organic vegetable plants and we sell these mostly through our on-site shop. Our aim is to give our teams a variety of rewarding opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence.

You will be working closely and proactively with the senior management and shop teams as we seek to develop the experience of working at Brunswick and to develop our resources.

In addition to working with the teams, this role is responsible for leading the business and operational aspects of this work area.  This will include consideration of the plant range for sale, managing a budget, good record keeping, health and safety, as well as building and leading a staff team.

You will need experience of managing and cultivating plant production in a commercial setting, great knowledge of garden plants and shrubs and experience of business planning in a horticultural context. We’re also looking for someone who thrives on enabling and supporting others to learn and develop in horticulture. You must be able to build genuine connections with the people you work alongside, be able to think holistically about people and take responsibility for the team’s welfare whilst at work. You’ll have energy, enthusiasm and the aspiration to enable others to develop, and to keep developing this area of Brunswick.  You can find more information about Brunswick on our website.

If you have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, a straight-forward approach and want a role that makes a difference, then we’d love to hear from you.

Visit our website for more information and the application forms.

An enhanced DBS check will be sought if you are offered the role.

Deadline for applications: 9am on Wednesday 9th February 2022

Interviews: To be confirmed but tentatively w/c 14th February and/or 21st February 2022
