An opportunity has arisen for a talented gardener wishing to develop their skills and knowledge working with an experienced Head Gardener and friendly, interested owners in a prestigious historic garden in West Sussex.

The Garden is a 27-acre historic woodland and water garden listed Grade 11* by English Heritage set on a sloping hill with magnificent views of the South Downs.  It holds a superb collection of rare trees and shrubs and has beautiful wildflower meadows as well as award winning rhododendrons.   The Garden is open to the public and private groups from April to October.

Applicants for this role should have RHS Level 2 or equivalent, a passion for plants and horticulture and be willing to maintain the garden to a high horticultural standard.  An enthusiasm for trees and shrubs would be an advantage and the applicant should enjoy being part of a small team as well as being able to show initiative and work on their own.

This role requires a range of horticultural skills in order to enhance and conserve the garden.  This includes experience of planting and care of plants, pruning of trees and shrubs, grass cutting, hedge cutting, mulching, leaf clearing and weeding, strimming and a willingness to interact with the public.

Applicants need to be fit and active with a can-do attitude and be prepared to work outside in all weathers.  An ability to operate a range of garden machinery is necessary for the role and a valid driving licence is essential.

Occasional overtime/weekend work will be required during open times.

Please apply with a copy of your cv. and covering letter to gardens@highbeeches.com
