Reporting to the Team Leader (Garden Landscapes), the Senior Horticulturist (Trees and Shrubs) is responsible with the Team Leader for the maintenance, care and curation of the woody collections (trees, shrubs and associated landscapes, eg long grass and hedges) to high standards throughout the Garden.  The successful candidate must have excellent plant knowledge, particularly of trees and shrubs, an understanding of the management of a woody collection and associated hazard management as well as excellent practical arboricultural skills and qualifications, with several year’s professional experience, as set out in the Further Particulars.  Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their ability to enhance the collection, within the guidelines of the Garden’s Living Collection Strategy.

The role holder will support the Team Leader (Garden Landscapes) and the Head of Horticulture in the day to day activities of the team, planning future projects and developing on new areas and new plantings for the section.  This role will supervise one assistant horticulturist plus trainees and volunteers.
