This is a key position within the team, one of three team leaders reporting directly to the Head of Horticulture.  The Team Leader (Glasshouses and Nursery) will have an overview of and manage the public facing Glasshouse Range and Glasshouse Bays, the reserve glasshouses and propagation facilities, Alpine Yard and Rock Garden, Experimental Glasshouses, Experimental plots and public research displays. 

The role holder will support the planning and activities of their team of 5 permanent staff (2 senior horticulturists, 2 assistant horticulturists and 1 weekend duty assistant), plus trainees and volunteers on a daily basis and have an overview on how the team’s activities relate to the broader work of the wider horticultural team and Botanic Garden, leading on special projects, implementation of the Garden’s Living Collection Strategy and offering HR support.

The successful candidate must have a wide plant knowledge with special reference to glasshouse collections (tropical, alpine, Mediterranean, etc), nursery management and propagation. Experience in managing a team, horticultural experience in a professional environment and relevant qualifications, as set out in the Further Particulars, are also essential.

The Team Leader will also be a key member of the Horticultural workforce and is expected to spend the majority of their time working hands-on with their team, delivering an exceptional standard of horticulture and plantsmanship, relative to the specialist requirements of this section.
