About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding.  Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy.  Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced horticulturalist who shares our passion for parks and green spaces as places for people to use and enjoy. Your role will be to design, develop and implement planting / landscaping schemes for the districts’ award winning parks and gardens; together with responsibility of engaging and nurturing local community and volunteer groups to help enhance and improve our parks and green spaces in a sustainable way.

Working in tandem with our existing Horticultural Technical Officer and operational teams, and through engagement with community groups and other stakeholders, you will ensure the continuous enhancement and environmental sustainability of our green spaces, in line with our climate change and biodiversity objectives, for the benefit of East Devon residents and visitors.

About you

With experience in a similar role and ideally a degree or equivalent experience in horticulture or garden design, you will be passionate about creating visually stunning and environmentally sustainable designs.  You will call on your existing experience in green space development, ability to produce plans and planting schemes, and your project management and co-ordination abilities to continue our award winning credentials.  You will also be adept at building effective relationships with operational staff, stakeholders and volunteer groups and must be capable of producing contract documents for planting schemes.

As an experienced project manager, you’ll be confident in delivering multiple tasks simultaneously to a high-quality and to deadline. You must have a valid driving licence as travel to site throughout the district will be required in the successful delivery of this role.
