The borough of Wandsworth has one of the richest varieties of open spaces in central London.  Enable Leisure and Culture is a non-for profit charitable organisation and the lead contractor employed by Wandsworth Borough Council to manage Leisure and Cultural services throughout the borough, including the management and maintenance of 32 parks and open spaces.

The role of Parks Operations Manager will test your existing skills and experience in contract management, grounds maintenance, ecology, biodiversity and groundsmanship as you deliver the highest quality of green space for residents and visitors to Wandsworth.  You will understand the current pressures on urban greenspaces and will be able to contribute proactively to outcomes which support biodiversity, climate resilience and natural recovery. 

This newly created role will suit a highly motivated individual who will get the job done no matter what.  We are looking for a candidate with significant knowledge of managing frontline services, who has industry leading experience as well as drive, passion and enthusiasm.  Your personable and approachable style will be put to good use as you liaise with the many stakeholder and community groups who use greenspaces in Wandsworth.  You will be able to manage a range of services and provide support and guidance to your motivated team of greenspace professionals.  

The portfolio of green space you will be responsible for range from small pocket parks, housing sites, allotments, cemeteries, sports pitches, plus sites of regional importance in heritage and biodiversity such as Tooting and Wandsworth Commons and the iconic Grade II listed Battersea Park.   

You will be expected to oversee operations across this range of spaces, each with their own site-specific challenges while ensuring consistent cost control within set budgets. 

You will need to be reactive to challenges that may arise all year round plus ensuring plans and processes are in place to deal with planned horticultural requirements throughout the seasons. 

Your solution driven approach will allow you to identify areas of service delivery needing improvement, seek relevant and financially feasible outcomes and get processes implemented quickly and efficiently. 

You will be a key member of the Parks team, taking overall responsibility for the day to day management of all parks operations including the delivery of the horticultural ground’s maintenance and playground service throughout the borough of Wandsworth. 

You will proactively manage a team of specialists and focus on their development, support and attainment, using your management skills to create a positive can do team approach to all tasks.

The role is for 40 hours a week based primarily in the Parks Office in Wandsworth Common.  You will be expected to travel around Wandsworth to visit sites and meet contractors and stakeholder representatives on a regular basis.
