NIAB is a leading UK centre for plant science, crop evaluation and agronomy, delivering work from its regional network and headquarters in Cambridge. 

Our field crop research and impartial information is used widely by the agricultural and horticultural community.

We are seeking an assistant farm manager to oversee both commercial and trial activities on soft fruit, top fruit and arable crops to join our farm team based at our centre in Kent which is predominantly horticulturally based.

You will be involved in wide ranging farm activities, including precision crop husbandry, machinery maintenance, spraying, pruning, together with specific farm management training and the delivery/implementation of project requests.

The successful applicant will have a degree in Agriculture/Horticulture, a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role and a full driving license. You should be able to operate Agriculture/Horticultural machinery and have a competence certificate in tractor and forklift driving is desirable. Ideally, you will be NRoSo registered and hold a City and Guilds PA1, PA2 and PA6 but not essential. Training can be provided, with further opportunities for progression within the company.

Applicants must be able to commit to a flexible work schedule with some extended and non-social hours as well as possible weekend work. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential.

Starting salary is in the range of £26,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
