Job Details

We are looking to recruit a commercial, creative, and analytical individual to work as a Senior Buyer, a new role in our rapidly expanding team. You will need a passion and knowledge of plants to excel and willingness to be part of successful and ambitious brand.


Building and maintaining good relationships with existing suppliers and continually seek any new supplier opportunities

Regular visits to suppliers and industry shows (uk and international).  Keeping good lines of communication with suppliers

Complete plant and complimentary hard goods range planning documents collating seasonally with pricing information, product photography and product USPs.  Present new product ideas to the wider team regularly

Work with the sales & marketing team to merchandise products effectively.  Understand customer profiles to maximise opportunities

Understand the commercials of product pricing and margin, conducting competitor analysis and initial product costing

Awareness of stock holding, budgeted spend and overall company objectives for commercials targets

Identify new product opportunities, present creative ideas, and actively development new, commercial products

Analyse historical sales information alongside the Sales & Marketing team to make commercial decisions for future forecasts

Manage product specifications and ensure they are communicated from supplier to the marketing team

Purchasing stock at the most competitive price, engaging in negotiations to ensure the best quality and value offering to the customer

Provide information to stock management team to ensure invoicing and credit documentation is correct

Ensure all buying decisions adhere to brand guidelines for consistency and credibility

Manage and organise product trials, track progress and record results.  Communicating and working effectively with the growing team for the best results.  Ensuring the marketing team are aware for photography opportunities and product development information

Maintain log of any quality issues and communicate constructively to suppliers for improvements

Be aware of current market trends and competitor activity

Manage library of competitors and supplier catalogues

Skills required:

  • A passion for flowers and plants
  • Experience of horticulture mail order retail is highly desirable not essential
  • Essential experience of buying in a commercial environment and confidence in negotiation
  • Be creative with ideas and think outside the box
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Be highly organised to meet multiple deadlines
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and commercial awareness
  • High level of professional integrity and responsibility
  • Be flexible and a team player
