Plant Area Manager: Full-time (four week days and one weekend day)

Key duties

• Take responsibility for all plant areas (indoor, outdoor, bedding), stock holding / nursery areas including plants, maintenance, stock transfers and future development of the site

• Duty Manager e.g. key holder - opening and closing, cash management, customer queries/complaints, liaising with office

• Managing and motivating your team to increase sales and ensure efficiency

• Work closely with buying team to manage stock levels and make key decisions about stock control

• Work closely visual merchandiser and communications team to ensure sales hot spots, themed product areas and displays are eye catching, seasonally relevant and have the right POS

• Management of plant area team including hiring staff, conducting appraisals and performance reviews, and providing or organising training & development

• Ensuring standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met

• Resolving health and safety, legal and security issues

• Responding to customer complaints and comments

• Organising special promotions, displays and events

• Updating colleagues on business performance, new initiatives and other changes to working conditions

• Touring the plant areas regularly, talking to colleagues and customers and identifying or resolving urgent issues

• Maintaining awareness of market trends in the horticulture and retail industry and understanding forthcoming customer initiatives. Attend relevant events and sales days with plant buyer

• Initiating changes to improve the business

• Dealing with sales, as and when required
