Job Duties:
This is an exciting opportunity to work in Hertfordshire’s highly regarded Highways Service helping to deliver highways routine maintenance services with a strong focus on Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape / Ground / Open Space design, construction and maintenance, including interaction with the ground-breaking ‘Members Highways Locality Budget’ initiative. You will take a lead role in developing operational policies, strategies and standards for routine and cyclical maintenance services that complement and contribute to lifecycle planning. You will also build strong relationships within the highway service, as well as District, Borough, Town and Parish Councils and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to delivery.

About you:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro-active individual to join the service, so experience gained in the highways sector, or equivalent, with a strong focus on Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape design, construction and maintenance.  You will have experience and be proficient with digital mapping platforms, along with producing technical arboricultural reports with expert tree identification, ability to provide expert advice to planning departments on all horticultural/arboricultural matters.

Experience of using Microsoft Office would be a distinct advantage, along with experience of managing other staff. However, the variety of tasks across the role will require a highways ‘all-rounder,’ matched with an attitude to getting the job done through innovative thinking, leading by example and adapting to change.

Responsibilities also include:

*You will provide professional and technical expertise and be responsible for the day to day management of the team for green infrastructure within the county of Hertfordshire.

*You will be meeting with local members and their communities, out on site, designing and managing projects, managing budgets and dealing with consultations.

*Working with and supporting county councillors in managing highways queries that come to them from their local community; involving investigation and resolution of often complex issues.
