We have an opportunity for someone with Landscape design and project management skills to join a small design team as part of our Landscaping Service. Under our commercial and service development offer you will be providing support to our Operations Managers in delivering a range of landscaping design and project management services to both the Council and private businesses/organisations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering excellent levels of customer service and satisfaction to enable the sustainable growth of income
  • Providing good quality design which is sustainable, biodiverse and future proof for a wide range of publicly accessible installations/landscapes
  • Finding innovative and cost effective solutions to urban landscaping problems
  • Providing accurate advice, estimates and quotes for chargeable services
  • Managing projects from initiation, through design stages and on to delivery on site
  • Generating new business by using market data, Officer intelligence and cold calling to engage with businesses
  • Up-selling and cross-selling our services to existing clients.

To be successful in the role you will hold an appropriate professional qualification in landscaping design to at least NVQ4 or equivalent experience in landscape design and horticultural developments along with a City and Guilds Level 2 award in Computer aided design or equivalent experience and certificates and relevant project management experience such as Prince 2 to undertake the job and be able to demonstrate experience of good organisational skills. You will require excellent communication skills and have a high level of IT literacy. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to understand market trends and provide high levels of customer care.

This is a 37 hour per week, permanent, full time contract which falls within Grade 9 of the Southampton City Council’s pay grades. This will equate to an annual salary of £34,728 – £38,890 plus contractual car users allowance.

You will be based at the Red Lodge Depot, in the heart of the City which has excellent transport links to all of the surrounding areas of Hampshire and beyond. Travel around the city is easy by bus or there are pool bikes that can be used, parking is provided.

The Commercial and Service Development Team provides high quality services including Tree Surgery, Landscaping, Schools Ground Maintenance, Pest Control and Allotments to Council departments and private businesses and organisations. Grounds maintenance contracts throughout Hampshire give us a broad customer base and provides good opportunities for cross-selling our services. We are keen to develop our commercial offer and this role will help us to drive forward with this.
