Job Details
JOB PURPOSE
To work as part of a team supervising clients within our Horticultural Department, implementing training programmes and maintaining production and contracts in line with agreed targets. To work on and assist in the development of our “Roots to Recovery” project, the aim of which is to establish new horticultural satellites to expand our reach and improve community spaces.
AREA OF INVOLVEMENT
Supervising a mobile gardening team, generating and carrying out contracts for garden maintenance and hard/soft landscaping. Working in close partnership with the already established mobile gardening team to manage and share workload and support each other with periods of holiday/sickness/training.
Providing support and training to enable people who may have mental health needs, learning disabilities or be currently unemployed to gain skills, knowledge and confidence. To promote their independence and well-being, supporting them to obtain or regain the skills to gain employment should they choose.
Supporting our eco, sustainability and green initiatives as part of the 'Roots to Recovery' project.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Relevant Horticultural qualifications (preferable)
Relevant Horticultural skills and experience (preferable)
Experience in retail and dealing with the public (essential)
Full driving licence (essential). BE, C1 and D1 entitlements are preferable, however training will be given to the right candidate as necessary
To be able to formulate and implement action plans
To be able to complement the skills of the current team
To be able to support and encourage others to develop their own skills
WORKING RELATIONSHIP/COMMUNICATION
To work within an already established Horticulture team, forming good working relationships with staff and clients within the wider horticultural services
Working in collaboration with management and team members from the other garden maintenance teams to promote joint working and ensure best value for money in undertaking work, use of equipment/materials etc.
To work in collaboration with other professionals ensuring good lines of communication, both written and verbal, thus ensuring a multi-professional concept of care is delivered
To communicate effectively with service users and carers in promoting an awareness of their individualised action plans
To work, communicate with and serve members of the public customers and trade as appropriate
To be able to initiate/continue working relationships with organisations outside of Blyth Star in the mind to potentially develop satellite services.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Ability to practically demonstrate horticultural skills to the service users and enable them to learn to carry these out independently
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the mobile gardening team, including delegation of duties for clients, take financial responsibilities and maintenance/service of equipment and vehicles
Contribute to the promotion and development of the Horticulture Department and mobile gardening teams, providing a range of products and services for customers.
Ensure a safe, hygienic, healthy working environment, undertaking risk assessments for all contracts
To keep within the agreed delegated financial budget and targets
Assist with the provision of training opportunities for service users to facilitate meaningful day activities
Record service user training developments and keep training files up to date, including personal development plans, individual learning plans and self-assessments
Safe/correct use of equipment within the department and the relevant maintenance procedures
Ongoing assessment of service users and attending appropriate meetings with Care Managers and other agencies involved in service user care and support
Assist in the on-going planning and expansion of the Nurseries and Mobile Gardening teams, being responsible for the contribution and dissemination of information to individuals and organisations. This includes the development of satellite projects across Northumberland, individual project work and consideration of green initiatives
Adhere to all statutory requirements e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH and policies of Blyth Star Enterprises
Participation in Individual supervisions
To act as an ambassador for Blyth Star Enterprises at all times.
