About Us

Maelor Forest Nurseries is located at Fields Farm, Bronington on the Welsh Borders. The nursery is part of the BSW Timber Group Limited and produces an extensive range of commercial forestry and native broadleaf species, marketing approximately 28 million trees a year to customers throughout the UK and Europe. We are in the development stages of establishing a significant nursery operation in Scotland.

Maelor is going through an exciting phase of growth with a new senior management team in a sector which is at the forefront of the countries solutions to climate change and the environment.

We also lead the UK in developing trees of the future through our scientific research and applied science in the areas of somatic embryogenesis and vegetive propagation at our science laboratories at Maelor.

We are seeking to appoint a Containerised Production Manager to manage our existing conventional Containerised Production and Vegetative Propagation programmes.

About the Role

As Containerised Production Manager you will be responsible for effectively managing our containerised production team and vegetative propagation team. You will have a range of responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Manually seeding and transplanting a range of species to an agreed production plan for broadleaves and conifers.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of the infrastructure and related irrigation.
  • Monitoring weed and pest presence and ensuring adequate control measures are put in place.
  • Take stock from hedges and insert into polytunnels for rooting.
  • Ensure high percentage rooting for strong viable plants.
  • Liaise and work with the Agronomy Manager for the husbandry and care of stock hedges.

You will also oversee a new project to manage and deliver 30 million cells in a new polytunnel and rolling bench facility as a single production cycle. This will see fully automated seedling lines for 30m cells installed and while this will initially be for one species you will create the potential for other species in the future.

About You

Our successful candidate should have a degree in a forestry/agriculture or a similar subject. You must also have experience working in an intensive large-scale agricultural/horticultural setting. Any experience of commercial growing in a forest nursery environment will also be an advantage.

In return, we offer an attractive salary and benefits package, plus first-class opportunities for personal and career development within our expanding nursery operations.
