  • Reports to the Operations Manager or Department Director
  • Liaison with Clients on site
  • Manage teams on a daily basis to ensure that they work safely and maintain high standards of work (quantity and quality)
  • Organise Chargehands, Foremen and Subcontractors in the most efficient manner to get the job done, allocating work schedules with due consideration for staff skills, training, qualifications and experience
  • Order all materials required for the works & ensure all additional works are instructed before they start
  • Ensure that all materials bought will have a purchase order raised and the copies are returned to the correct office staff for filling
  • Purchase materials from approved suppliers, securing best available prices to ensure maximum profit
  • Ensure plant is correct for the job
  • Produce monthly cost reports showing costs for materials, labour and plant
  • Produce look ahead financial reports showing upcoming months forecast
  • Be able to make decisions at a fast pace and with confidence
  • Make sure that all extra works are accounted for and priced
  • Check that all subcontractors have orders before works start and that all areas of the works have been covered
  • Provide cover for Supervisors during absence
  • Attend all department and client meetings as and when required
  • Manage sites in a professional manner ensuring they are maintained as required within the contract/specification received from the Operations Manager
  • Snag all sites with particular attention paid to identifying poor quality workmanship and then ensuring that snagged work is rectified to the schedule
  • Ensure that Supervisors/Foreman maintain all other paperwork records required for site work
  • Ensure staff maintain high standards of dress and deportment whilst on site
  • Ensure site teams conduct themselves professionally whilst at work and particularly whilst on site
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with the specification/contract/drawing, briefs
  • Manage all subcontractors deployed on site ensuring that works are carried out safely, to agreed standards, and are profitable to the company
  • Ensure site teams carry out Daily Activity Briefings and staff sign the DABS handing the completed forms to the SHEQ Department
  • Ensure that Plant Operators carry out plant checks and sign for the checks handing the completed form to the SHEQ Department
  • Ensure that their staff do not use any unsafe machinery or vehicles, reporting all unsafe vehicles or machinery to the Operations Manager or SHEQ department
  • Ensure that staff book out all vehicles and machinery
  • Ensure that staff are wearing the PPE detailed in the Risk Assessments or Method Statements
  • Discipline any staff that fail to wear PPE
  • Report any accidents, incidents, problems, unsafe acts or near misses on site to the SHEQ Department
  • Make sure TBT are given on a weekly basis, ensure staff sign for the TBT and return the form to the SHEQ Department
  • Make sure Method Statement and Risk Assessments are written and in place prior to carrying out work on site
  • Carry out site visits to ensure the cleanliness/tidiness of their work areas on site and the overall cleanliness/tidiness of the works compound
  • Cleanliness of their teams allocated vehicles
  • Act in the best interests of the company at all times
  • Ensure that they are familiar with, and observe, the requirements of the companies Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Policies, Management Systems and Procedures
  • Any other duties allocated by the companies Commercial Operations Manager, and all other directors.

Desirable:

  • Horticultural awareness
  • Experience in the Construction Role
  • Previous experience of managing staff
  • Good numeracy and literacy
  • Computer literate
  • Reading of drawings and specifications
  • To have a positive attitude towards work

Essential:

  • Trade Skills (SMSTS)
  • Behavioural Safety
  • Possible IOSH or NEBOSH training
