About the Role:

To be part of the horticultural team involved with the propagation, maintenance, harvest and processing of research and commercial crops grown within the glasshouse facility. The candidate must work within a GxP environment and operate within the bounds of standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the team leaders, the key Horticultural duties include:

  • Planting of seed
  • Preparation of cuttings
  • Planting of crops
  • Watering
  • Scouting for pests and disease and application of biocontrol
  • Crop monitoring
  • Harvest and preparation of crop for processing

In addition to the horticultural duties and under the supervision of team leader the role will also be involved with processing and detailing the preparation and labelling of research and quality samples for transfer to analytical or quality departments. Key duties will include:

  • Identification, preparation and processing of botanical research and quality related samples
  • Documentation and audit of research samples
  • Data input into research data bases for results compilation and presentation
  • There will be an occasional need to work weekends to water plants after probation period
  • The job holder will also be responsible for maintaining cGxP and H&S knowledge applicable to the job
  • Carries out their work in a way that will not adversely affect their own, or others’, health, safety and security or the environment and reports any shortcomings in GW arrangements

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of working in a horticultural production or research environment
  • Experience of a record based and/or quality-controlled environment within the workplace
  • Can demonstrate a practical interest and knowledge of horticulture
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good level of computer literacy (MS Office Products)
  • Demonstrates a ‘can do’ approach
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others
  • Shares ideas and information

Desirable:

  • Folk lift truck license
  • First aid training
  • Health and safety training
  • Understanding of plant nutrition
  • Experience of working in a glasshouse environment
