SKILLED GARDENER
TEMPLETON ESTATE, ROEHAMPTON, LONDON SW15
c £25,000 - DOE

Templeton House, one of London’s finest private residences, is a spectacular Grade II listed 30,000 sqft Georgian mansion set in 3 acres of grounds, which has just undergone a seven-year extensive restoration and meticulous refurbishment.

This magnificent family home is situated in South West London just moments from Richmond Park. Formerly home to Winston Churchill, its three-acre walled garden includes extensive lawns, flower parterres, sunken secluded Italian garden, a reflection pool, mature forest trees, extensive yew hedges and topiary, championship-standard outdoor tennis court, stabling and other outbuildings, and has been dramatically re-presented by the celebrated landscape architect Todd Longstaffe-Gowan. You would be joining at an exciting phase as the gardens are further extended to include those for a Dower House, Cottages and Stables areas.

We also own and manage a number of Award-winning Executive homes in the area, each having smaller but beautifully designed and stocked family gardens, having a range of mature trees, plants and lawns.

The Head Gardener is seeking to employ a skilled Gardener with 3 to 5 years’ experience who will have excellent horticultural knowledge and a passion for maintaining gardens to the highest standards, working closely in line with the owners’ vision.

Ideally you will hold an academic horticultural qualification at Level 2 or above and ideally PA1/PA6A or even CS30/CS31 certificates.

You will work with the Head Gardener and our property manager to deliver the agreed strategies for our short, medium and long-term goals at our properties.

You will be responsible for the maintenance of both the gardens at Templeton under the direction of the Head Gardener and take more direct responsibility for the other properties.

You will restore, maintain or improve the existing gardens, including some hard landscaping, while also undertaking new projects including establishing herbaceous and floral borders around other buildings. All this work will be undertaken with a great eye for detail and a passion to achieve the highest standards.

Plant identification skills are key to monitor and nurture the health of all plants and trees as required. You will have a detailed knowledge of the watering requirements for all plantings and manage the irrigation systems to that effect. Experience of minor repairs and adjustments is beneficial and especially a willingness to learn.
You will also assist with the implementation of sound Health and Safety practice, machinery and equipment maintenance. You will be able to handle a wide range of garden machinery, including mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters.  The ability to maintain machinery is a bonus.

You will be highly self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic, with a hands-on, proactive can-do attitude, excellent time management skills and you must be willing and able to work and join in as part of the wider team on the estate.

The working week is 40 hours, with occasional weekend work.  Salary and benefits are subject to experience.  Accommodation may potentially be available.
