Skilled Gardener

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gardening team at Riverhill, a small private estate, 2 miles south of Sevenoaks in Kent.    The historic gardens are open to the public and we are looking for a Part-time Skilled Gardener/Duty Manager

Are you passionate about plants and great with people?  We are looking for a skilled gardener with excellent horticultural experience/training to join our gardening team, working with our Head Gardener to maintain and restore these historic gardens, with particular focus on our Walled Garden.  During our open season (Mid March - End Oct) there would also be the requirement to act as Duty Manager (approx 8 hrs per week).

The Walled Garden includes a kitchen garden and so you would ideally have a passion for growing vegetables and a flair for combining these with flowers/herbs for maximum visual impact as well as taste.  You would also be skilled and experienced in the maintenance of the beautiful herbaceous and peony borders.

In the wider gardens, tasks would be varied and would include pruning, planting, weeding and deadheading on The Rose Walk and in the Rock Garden and Wood Garden. Attention to detail and high standards are crucial.  For more information on the gardens visit www.riverhillgardens.co.uk

When acting as Duty Manager the role will include welcoming members of the public and groups, safety checks on gardens/playground, assisting at the ticket office with upgrades and sales and looking after our volunteers.  For this reason it is crucial that you are as good with people as you are with plants!  You will be a practical & confident ‘problem solver’ with good IT skills and happy to be trained as a first aider.  Having a positive attitude and working well as part of our happy and creative team is also crucial.

3 days per week (Thursday & Sat + either Weds or Fri)
