Job Details

If you offer significant experience in horticulture and arboriculture, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role leading the gardens team and working across the high-profile gardens of this prestigious school.

As Gardens Manager, you will ensure the gardens receive the high level of direction they require so that they reach their full potential. To achieve this, you will develop landscaping, planting and maintenance strategies and proposals for the development of the gardens as well as seasonal work schedules to ensure the care of all gardens and woodlands. This will include ensuring that the many trees and hedges within the estate are kept in a safe and healthy condition and all footpaths, tracks and fences are appropriately maintained.

You will also manage the Gardens Department’s environmental impact, including energy and chemicals, and take responsibility for the day to day health and safety needs of the department. The role will also involve liaising with statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency and Planning Authorities to ensure the School meets statutory and other requirements.

Demonstrable experience of running a similar department within an estate of a comparable size is essential. You will need to be financially competent as you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the budget for the department. Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act is also required, and you will need to be competent in the handling of chemicals or fuels and the safe operation of various types of machinery.

If you can provide forward-thinking leadership and management and have a passion for creating and developing outstanding gardens, we would be delighted to hear from you.
