NIAB is a dynamic, research led and market driven plant bioscience organisation, with an emphasis on innovative applications for end-users in the agricultural, horticultural and food sectors. With almost 90 years’ experience of technology evaluation and transfer, NIAB is spear-heading the advancement of plant genetic resources through research, technical services and training.

We wish to appoint a Plant Breeding Technician based at NIAB EMR, East Malling in Kent to work as part of our Breeding team. You would be responsible for providing support for the Strawberry and Raspberry breeding programmes and will also provide technical assistance with plant patent applications for all breeding programmes (soft & top fruit), commercial trial data collection/collation and micropropagation including meristem excision. This is a permanent position.

To be successful, you must have five GCSEs, or equivalent. An interest in horticultural science and developing skills in practical plant growing and care is essential.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly to meet seasonal workloads with occasional weekend work and occasional unsocial hours. You must also be able to work in glasshouses/polytunnels/outdoor environments in hot and cold temperatures. Experience of the horticultural industry and direct experience of working with plant material is desirable, as is the ownership of a full driving license.

The salary for this role is in the range of £18,278 up to £19,473 per annum, dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
