Job Title - Skilled Grounds Person 

Hours -  Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 15:30, Overtime is available.

We are looking to recruit an experienced grounds person to join our team and provide a high-quality service to our customers within the Watford Area. Within this role, you will be expected to prepare and maintain sports facilities across Watford, including bowls greens, croquet lawns, cricket fields, tennis courts, football pitches, and rugby fields. 

To be considered for this position, you will need to hold a recognised grounds person qualification at level 2 or above

What you’ll do

Main duties will include: 

• Provide grounds maintenance to a high standard in all areas of the service, including  but not limited to: 

   

  • Grass cutting.

     

    Shrubbery maintenance.

     

    Planting annual bedding.

     

    Pruning herbaceous beds.

     

    Cutting of hedge lines and tree maintenance.

     

    Preparing and maintaining sports areas.

     

    Spraying insecticides. 

     

    Cemetery and grave work.

     

  Maintain vehicles and equipment, ensuring that they are kept and operated following agreed procedures. This includes improvements to facilities where appropriate.

   

  Ensure buildings and premises are safe, secure and clean and report any problems or issues to the line manager.

   

  Complete sports surface inspections and maintenance before public use.

   

  Ensure stock and equipment are used effectively and efficiently to maximise the use of resources.

   

The experience you will need

Essential:

• Experience working within a grounds maintenance position, including knowledge of horticulture techniques.

   

  Knowledge of sports pitch preparation, including marking out a range of sports surfaces at the start of the season

   

  Experience operating and providing essential maintenance of machinery.

   

  Health and safety knowledge, relevant to Parks & Open Spaces and the use of correct personal protective equipment.

   

  A Full UK driving licence

   

  Safe use of pesticide qualifications PA1 and PA6 

   

Desirable:

• Safe use of pesticide qualification PA2.
