NIAB is a leading UK centre for plant science, crop evaluation and agronomy, delivering work from its regional network and headquarters in Cambridge. Our field crop research and impartial information is used widely by the agricultural and horticultural community.

We are seeking conscientious and enthusiastic people who enjoy a range of working activities to join our farm and trials services teams based at our Headquarters in Cambridge, predominantly arable based, and our centre in Kent which is predominantly Horticulturally based.

You will be using a range of bespoke trials and commercial equipment and expected to operate machinery to carry out a range of tasks such as cultivations, drilling, irrigation, agrochemical application, harvest and all other husbandry tasks relating to Horticultural and Arable crops on commercial and trial plots along with cross centre working to help other teams within the company in field recording, soil assessments and general duties, some of which can be physically demanding.

For both roles, applicants should enjoy carrying out a range of tasks; have a good standard of education and a full driving licence. Agrochemical application certificates are a requirement of the roles as is holding CPC’s for Forklift and Tractor driving although if not held you will be expected to undertake training to obtain these. Working paid overtime is expected.

For the role based in Cambridge (Ref. SV/A1203), there will also be the expectation to operate equipment where you will be responsible for the safety of work colleagues. Equipment may also be fitted with RTK GPS technology.

For the role based in Kent (Ref. SV/A1259), there will also be the expectation to undertake pruning activities during the winter depending on the work requirement

Starting salary is £19,626 to £25,896 per annum, dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications.
