An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a large and friendly family home in Southampton, working as a live out Gardener on a permanent, part time basis for 24 hours per week.

With experience of a range of horticultural techniques, you will possess a minimum qualification of RHS Level 2 or equivalent in Horticulture and join a small yet welcoming team, working at our home and grounds alongside other Gardeners and members of staff. 

Reporting to the Head Gardener, you will support the team by having a hands-on approach to all aspects of garden, grounds and landscape management. Additionally, as a member of the wider operational team, you will assist the team with the feeding, cleaning and care of animals including donkeys, pigs, wallabies, goats and poultry.

The role will include: 

  • Maintaining and enhancing the quality to all areas of the gardens, grounds, borders and kitchen garden
  • Planting and the development of herbaceous and shrub borders alongside formal garden maintenance
  • Developing the kitchen garden and providing seasonal fruit and vegetables and cut flowers for the household
  • Supporting with the maintenance of mown, meadow and lawn areas including fertilising and spraying duties

Working with the team to clean and maintain water features and ponds whilst supporting with rural tasks from time to time including boundary maintenance
Support the family with family pet and animal care plus other ad-hoc duties.

Whilst being proficient in operating a wide range of garden machinery, personal qualities include the ability to work alongside others in our team, a ‘can do attitude’ and the capability to work flexibly in line with the needs of the gardens and family.

The position is available for an immediate start* working 24 hours per week. The days of work are flexible between Monday and Friday with occasional weekends to meet the needs of the role and weekend watering and animal feeding rotas. A full and current driving licence is required, the position requires you to be able to travel to work daily in the Hampshire / Southampton area.
