Senior Arboricultural Officer

(M2) £35,745 - £38,890 a year, plus £963 essential car user allowance

Permanent

Full-Time (37 hours a week)

As somewhere to live, Luton is inspiring and forward thinking. With award winning galleries, 6 Green Flag parks, 2 x SSSI’s, some 26,500 recorded trees, beautiful Chiltern views, and excellent transport links. Luton has an affordable housing market, with house prices below the national average. The links with London are exceptionally good. In 36 minutes you could be back to London on a direct train. Our offices are close to the train station.

We acknowledge Luton is currently on an improvement journey and that is the reason we need a passionate, agile, dynamic, creative and inspiring Senior Arboricultural Officer to join our Parks & Countryside Service at this important juncture.

About the job

If you’re an experienced and collaborative individual, you could become a part of team who will provide professional expertise to support the Parks and Countryside Service consistent with the Councils aims, objectives, statutory obligations and targets.  You will act as a lead contact in the service responding to a range of specialist issues relating to arboriculture, and actively support the strategic development of local projects, local plans and strategies working with outside bodies and promoting cross boundary liaison.

As a Senior Arboricultural Officer, you will also manage, commission and monitor arboricultural works/services to ensure the tree stock is inspected, audited, maintained and data recorded at a timely response to tree related enquiries and complaints working to agreed time scales, budgets and Health & Safety legislation.

About you

We are looking for someone who is able to converse with ease with members of the public to  provide effective help or advice in accurate and fluent spoken and written English.

You will be an all-rounder, proficient in the use of computerised tree management systems (we use Arbortrack) and with efficient administrative skills.  You will be confident to communicate effectively to deal with and advise on TPO and subsidence enquiries; negotiate and persuade officers internally and externally including developers, public, agencies and other stakeholders and able to prepare comprehensive arboriculture reports relating to arboriculture issues and the performance of the arboriculture service in responding to customer enquiries.

It is essential that you have demonstrable knowledge of the Arboriculture Sector in both the national and local context and can evidence your knowledge and experience relating to best Arboricultural practice, legislative requirements, Health & Safety practice including TM, CDM, COSHH, and  pesticide regulations within an operational context.

A good working knowledge of the London Tree Officers Protocol and identification and implications of structural weakness, decay, pest and diseases and of the effects of tree root systems on buildings and underground services is required.

Our ideal candidate should have a degree/diploma in arboriculture or a related subject e.g. forestry, ecology, countryside/woodland, management, biology or conservation and a minimum of an operational/ technical Level 3 award with evidence of continuing professional development or equivalent experience.

If you think that you have what it takes, are ambitious to progress within the industry and could become an asset to our team, then get in touch. We look forward to receiving your application.
