We are currently recruiting for:

Job Title: Environment Improvement Officer
Location: Telford
Salary: Up to £27,500 per annum + benefits

To effectively engage and liaise with a multitude of stakeholder groups, particularly residents and their parishes, local businesses, schools and further education, funders and other external organisations. To seek cost-effective resources from corporate volunteering or community rehabilitation companies. To secure external grant funding wherever possible, in conjunction with stakeholder groups.  

Duties will include

  • Actively involve the local community in idverde community contracts
  • Create, update and deliver a contract Communications and Engagement plan
  • Create, update and deliver a contract Activity plan
  • Agree and deliver the Community Engagement KPIs within an Annual Implementation Plan
  • Work collaboratively with idverde’s operations team to manage the environment in a way that maximises community benefit
  • Use resources efficiently and effectively
  • Encourage resident-led change to green and urban space
  • Enhance landscape features as part of an integrated approach between idverde’s contracted duties and community or voluntary action
  • Contribute to the health and well-being of residents
  • Provide focus on the protection of the natural environment and biodiversity
  • Support the local economy
  • Encourage, recruit and manage volunteers
  • Identify local opportunities for business growth, for example with parishes, schools and other local businesses

Customer/Client care

  • Responsible for organising and working with resident groups to maximise community involvement
  • Organise and work with voluntary groups to maximise work placement opportunities for the local community
  • Manage and deliver training courses for volunteers to increase their capacity, drawing upon the skills of the wider Greenspace Development Team and other idverde trainers
  • Liaise and build respectful relationships with clients as well as other internal departments, disabled, ethnic and other stakeholder groups
  • Attend regular meetings of the Stakeholder Panel, establish a customer feedback system and monitor trend results
  • Run parish/residents’ workshops and ‘Meet Your Contractor’ days to maximise resident involvement and gain their input into the shaping of the service
  • Run training courses for residents to be able to monitor the service provided
  • Establish a programme of site surveys and visits with residents to implement improvement of horticultural features
  • Prepare and update Volunteer Calendars and Maps
  • Work collaboratively with resident volunteers, community payback and corporate volunteer groups to provide added value services
  • Utilise innovation by designing a range of events, such as summer holiday programmes for teenagers to become involved in designing, planting and managing greenspace
  • Attendance at meetings and events out of normal working hours will be required

Quality, Health & Safety, and Environment

  • Focus on the Company’s ISO 9001 quality procedures
  • Ensure that the Company’s Health and Safety policy is observed and implemented
  • Report, with integrity, any Health & Safety concerns on Client land directly to the Client
  • Follow the Company’s Environmental Management system

Financial Management

  • Research and secure external funding from a variety of different sources.
  • Where idverde lead on the implementation of community projects, manage internal and external contractors from project start to finish with responsibility for all financial management
  • Price up additional works

General

  • Prepare and present reports to various Stakeholder bodies
  • Assist the Client with the development of relevant policies and strategies
  • Lead on initiatives such as Green Flag, in Bloom entries, BALI awards, Keep Britain Tidy Awards

Skills/Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role we are looking for an individual with a good, all round knowledge of grounds maintenance together with leadership qualities who can assist management in implementing Company Policies and Practices.  You will have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with management at all levels to build and maintain excellent client relationships. You will have the confidence and ability to challenge ideas as appropriate and will have the ability to guide and train others on horticultural practices.

Essential criteria: -

  • A full driving licence
  • Experience in a similar role
  • A Grounds maintenance or cleansing qualification
