The Private Gardens of the Gorhambury Estate, St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Description of the gardens
The house has been lived in by the Grimston family since its construction in the 1700s with the current Viscount and Viscountess Grimston now residing at Gorhambury with their young family.
Sitting within a large historic parkland, the Garden at Gorhambury is about 2.7 Hectares or 6.7 acres and has been beautifully redesigned by Tom Stuart-Smith. This historic Garden with modern input and design incorporates beautiful perennial borders, hedges, fruit and orchard, productive area, topiary, trees, shrubberies, woodland, and informal areas with meadow. The gardens are managed organically where possible and practical. As well as being a family home, the garden is periodically opened to visitors.
The appointment of a HG will largely replace a specialist contract team. Ongoing support and advice from the designer and specialist contractor will be provided as required to ensure the continued legibility of the design and planting.
The Estate is close to the historic city of St Albans and 3 miles to the mainline rail station.

Salary for a Sole / Head Gardener reflects PGG 2020 salary guidelines (Sole Gardener starting at £25,763 and Head Gardener starting at £30,450) depending on experience and suitability.
