Estate Gardener - 43214

A knowledgeable, skilled Gardener is sought for the well-established and impressive 12 acre garden and arboretum of a historic house near Braintree. The successful candidate will need to have strong horticultural knowledge and experience with managing large gardens.

The garden includes an ornamental historic walled garden, a kitchen garden, an orchard, a wildflower meadow, a water garden, a 5 acre arboretum, and extensive lawns with various herbaceous borders. The Arboretum includes a large variety of rare trees and therefore some level of arboricultural knowledge is desirable (though external tree surgeons attend where required).  Strong plant knowledge, understanding seasonal garden management, competence with garden machinery including tractors and ride-on mowers, experience with topiary and competence relating to the other areas of the garden are all important..

Hard landscaping experience may be useful but is not a requirement.  You will ideally have a Level 2 Horticultural Qualification (or equivalent), but if you have suitable extensive experience without a qualification this may still be appropriate.

The successful candidate may ideally have experience as head or sole gardener for a large private garden, but the client will consider skilled people from other experience backgrounds ready to step up into such a role.

This is a live out position and is rurally located so a driving license is essential.
