Experienced Gardener
Lady Whitbread, Glebe House, Southill Park, Biggleswade is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, experienced Gardener to help with the day to day maintenance of her private 4-acre mature garden.
Set within a magnificent private parkland, the gardens surround Glebe House, the private residence of Sir Samuel and Lady Whitbread featuring some beautiful displays of herbaceous borders, mature trees, and a lake.
This role would suit someone with a keen eye for detail and who has a passion for, and interest in, the care of a significant private garden. The person should be keen to help further develop and improve the garden working closely with Lady Whitbread.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintenance of the beds, borders, ponds, lake and woodland areas around Glebe House
- All day- today care and management of plants, trees, lawns and hedges
- Working with hand held machinery such as lawn mowers, strimmers, blowers and hedge cutters
- Assisting with new garden and landscape projects as required
- Maintenance of the kitchen garden carrying out tasks such as cropping, propagation and glasshouse work
- Ensuring that the gardens and grounds are kept to the highest standards possible
- To ensure a safe working environment in line with current legislation
The successful candidate must be:
- Able to work alone and with others as part of a small team
- Possess good attention to detail
Desirable Qualification requirements:
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture or similar
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar gardening role
- Full, clean driving licence
- Tractor driving competency (desirable)
Package & benefits:
- Salary up to £23,000 depending on experience
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
- 37 ½ hours per week with occasional weekend working
- Training as required
- Cottage can be made available
