An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled gardener to assist in the maintenance and development of a stunning garden set in the beautiful North Wessex Downs. Designed by Tom Stuart-Smith this established garden exudes his flowing landscape design and textural planting for year-round interest. The enclosed focal area of the garden consists of strong structural elements including Corten steel water tanks, retaining walls and cobbled paths as well as a contrasting planting palette of ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials which give interest well into winter. The garden also contains mixed herbaceous borders around the main house, lawns, ornamental and native hedging, a woodland border, a small display greenhouse, and large areas of orchard and wildflower meadows.
This position will offer an opportunity to develop your knowledge of plants and their cultivation under the guidance of an experienced Head Gardener. Key duties will include maintenance tasks such as weeding, deadheading, pruning, mowing, and hedge cutting as well as assisting the Head Gardener in developing or renovating planting schemes across the gardens.
We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable gardener with a good basic understanding of plants and horticultural techniques. The applicant should have a level 2 or above horticultural qualification and have an excellent attention to detail to ensure the highest possible presentation standards. They should have a positive, hard-working attitude and the ability to work well within a small friendly team. Experience in the operation of a wide range of garden machinery including pedestrian and ride-on mowers, hedgecutters, brushcutters and leaf blowers as well as spray certificates PA1/6 is desirable.
This is a live out position and due to the rural location the applicant must hold a current valid driving license and have their own transport.
