Our client has a well-established nursery which produces 25m cell-grown trees throughout the year. These are produced from seed and cuttings and go through various stages of production, seed tray, mini plug, direct sown and are potted at different stages over a 12-month production cycle covering over 120 different varieties. The production cycle for trees varies between 6 months and 2 years dependent on species. Their sowing and production plans need to be highly sophisticated to factor in different specifications in order to produce a wide range of top-quality products.
An experienced Nursery Supervisor/ Grower is currently sought by our client to oversee the production of produce from propagation through to harvest. The Nursery Supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of up to 6 growers. He / She will be responsible for the general maintenance and plant care to include watering, irrigation, pruning, propagation as well as pest and disease control. The successful candidate will monitor and maintain production quality and assist in training unskilled team members. He / She will work closely with the retail team to ensure plants are ready for dispatch
- Excellent plant knowledge
- Leading teams on growing related tasks; to timescale and agreed standards
- Pest, Disease and quality control
- Ensuring the team are working safely, complying with relevant legislation
- Previous experience of working in a similar capacity is essential
- A suitable horticulture/agriculture qualification is desirable
