Senior Advisor Responsibilities:

As Senior Plant Health Adviser, you will be the NFU’s technical policy expert on plant health and agronomy including integrated pest management, crop nutrition, crop protection, pesticide and biocide issues as they impact on farming practice, public health and the environment. Representing the voice of our farming members, you will strive to influence outcomes across a range of stakeholders; from regulators and the chemical industry, to EU and international bodies, government departments, agencies and NGOs. You will gain exposure and recognition across a variety of farming sectors and in policy making at a national and international level.

You will initiate and manage appropriate projects, policies and programmes related to agronomy, plant health, and pesticide stewardship, working closely with partner organisations and stakeholders. You will facilitate the continued availability and integrated use of crop protection and other agricultural chemicals, to protect UK farm business productivity.

Senior Advisor Requirements:

To be successful as the NFU’s Senior Plant Health Adviser, you will be able to synthesise and communicate technical and complex information, often on politically sensitive or emotionally charged issues. You should enjoy working with people and will be comfortable presenting to stakeholder meetings, conferences and the media. You should be politically astute, with a track record of problem-solving and achieving successful outcomes in external negotiations whilst maintaining good working relationships.

You will be educated to BSc degree level or above in agronomy, biology, ecology, agriculture or a similar subject. The ability to work occasionally outside of normal working hours as required and to travel throughout the UK and internationally is essential.

Salary: circa £37,667 per annum
