You don’t need to be an expert gardener to join us, but you do need to be passionate about growing brands and the online opportunities for the gardening lifestyle market. 

The Role We are looking for an established Assistant/Junior Buyer within the Gardening category with strong Ecommerce experience, a passion for product, creative flair and sound commercial acumen. Working with our Head of Buying and Ecommerce team, you will primarily be responsible for sourcing, developing and expanding our none plant web range and proposition to achieve ambitious growth targets. 

A motivated self-starter, you will need to be adaptable, flexible, results orientated & able to work under pressure within a small team but this is a great opportunity to really ‘make a difference within the business  

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of buying and range development for our website and Ecommerce platforms
  • Understanding the marketplace, target customer and key competitors
  • Research, develop and present range and seasonal plans within agreed Ecommerce timetable and implementation plan
  • Pro-actively exploring new subcategory and product opportunities
  • Work with Ecommerce team to ensure stock is enabled on time and product copy is provided in time for enabling
  • Work with Ecommerce team to plan seasonal/promotional calendar & offers 
  • Regularly communicate with & present to management team on recommended buying decisions, market trends, NPD opportunities & contribute to whole Ecom strategy
  • Comparison shop & negotiate best prices to achieve margin targets whilst achieving quality requirements 
  • Ownership and accountability of Buying critical path for on time delivery of products to distribution partners and seasonal availability
  • Work with distribution partners to optimise & produce cost effect mail order packaging solutions & meet drop test requirements
  • Hold regular supplier performance reviews, and contribute to future supplier strategies
  • When required, brief packaging & label designers ensuring brand guidelines are met & liaise with advisers to ensure regulatory requirements are fully researched, understood & implemented
  • Maintain product costing and spec sheets
  • Monitor product sales, forecast demand & recommend/implement order adjustments as necessary to minimise OOS and maximise sales opportunity
  • Monitor inventory, manage & control stock to maximise efficiency & minimise waste

Competencies and Skills required

  • Strong project management skills and able to demonstrate strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Commercially astute with demonstrable experience of leading and concluding negotiations on product, prices, and contract terms
  • Experienced in product costing & responsibility for profit/margin achievement & inventory management
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative and independently
  • A team player with a ‘can do’ attitude who can fit into a small team
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills & advanced Microsoft Office/Excel skills
  • Must have Ecommerce trading experience
  • Minimum 3 years buying experience – Gardening essential
