Eastleigh Borough Council is looking for a committed and keen Senior Arboriculture Officer to join its award-winning Streetscene Team.

You will oversee the management of EBC-owned tree stock, including devising and delivering an inspection programme. You will be responding to tree work applications and notifications and have control of designated budgets. You will also be responsible for providing specialist advice to relevant sections of the Council. The role will include arranging and commissioning works as required, including supervising contractors and liaising with external agencies as required. Working as part of a small team, you will be responsible for the management of the Arboriculture Officer, supervising their work plan and ensuring their development.

This role will require you to be part of an out-of-hours standby rota, answering queries as needed (two weeks out of every four) for which an additional allowance of £100 per week is paid.

To be successful, you will have a minimum qualification of a National Diploma in Level 4 Arboriculture or significant experience within a local authority tree department. You will have extensive working knowledge and practice of arboriculture, including tree identification skills, developing tree survey inspection methodology, undertaking tree surveys and tree protection legislation. Knowledge of land ownership and management through Land Registry and GIS and a proven ability to operate and adhere to health and safety procedures is necessary. You will be confident in overseeing contractors, and previous experience managing or supervising team members is desirable. An ability to work independently as well as part of a team is essential, as are good organisational skills and the capability to manage your own workload and time.

This role will see you come into contact with members of the public, arboriculture experts, applicants, planning specialists and Councillors, as well as other sections of the Council, therefore excellent communication skills are a must. Local government experience is highly desirable.

If you are excited by this opportunity and feel you have the skills, experience and attitude we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.

At Eastleigh, we are committed to supporting and developing all our staff and creating a culture that is inclusive, innovative and enjoyable. We offer a good range of benefits and facilities.

  • Local Government pension scheme (defined benefits scheme)
  • Up to 28 days’ annual leave (dependent on local government service)
